Spring Show 2025

We held our Spring Show on Sunday 6th April, the weather was perfect with not a cloud in the sky and temperatures nudging 20 degrees. The recent warm sunny weather meant the daffodils were at their peak, although many Camelias had gone over. We had 138 entries from 20 entrants. Significantly higher than last year, when the weather was very cold and wet. One of the most popular class was class 17 (three stems of flowering shrubs) with ten entries. The daffodil challenge (class 21) where each member purchased an Amadeus daffodil bulb at the AGM and exhibited it in the pot, had 12 entries. The new class introduced this year, five helleborus blooms floating in water, was a great success. We had 8 entries of diverse and beautiful hellebores. There were entries in every one of the 21 classes.

Our judge, John Eckton commented on the very high quality of all the exhibits, particularly the daffodils.

The winners this year were:

Jane West - The James and Peter Dunlop Shield (highest points in classes 1 -12)

Eddie Smith - The Joan Birch Cup (highest points in classes 13-17)

Dr Debby Reynolds - The Ella Stephens Cup (winner of the pot plant class 18)

Eddie Smith - The Eric Salt Cup (best exhibit in the show, classes 1 -12)

Jane West - The National Daffodil Society Medal (best bloom in show, classes 1 -12)

There were a high number of visitors in the afternoon, enjoying tea, coffee and warm hot cross buns.  It was lovely to be able to sit outside on the terrace and soak up the sun.

Sustainable Bucklebury were giving out a variety of free seeds, the aim is to encourage our gardens to become havens for wildlife. If you would like more information on this local project please visit their website www.sustainablebucklebury.org.uk.

The Century Club was drawn and a raffle was also held.

Thank you to everybody who supported our show, either exhibiting, helping on the day or visiting, its success is down to you.

Don't forget to plant your seed potato in a 15 litre pot now, for class 48 in the Autumn show.

Our Summer Show is Saturday 5th July, fingers crossed the weather continues to be kind to us.

Kind regards

Jane West
